This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to comply with the requirements of a liquor license. The scope of this unit will provide training for new liquor licensees.

Liquor Licensing in Victoria – Licensees’ First Step has been developed to assist licensees in complying with the licensing regulations and to meet an overall community need to minimize alcohol related harm. This course has been designed specifically for people who are currently applying for a liquor license or those who have recently been granted a liquor license.

SECTIONS COVERED INCLUDE

Element 1: Interpret the requirements of the liquor license and other regulatory requirements

  • Obtain information about liquor legislation, common law and regulatory requirements to define the role of liquor licenses within the objectives of the liquor regulations.
  • Correctly identify liquor license type and conditions for workplace application.
  • Describe the requirements of other regulatory and industry bodies for the workplace.
  • List the consequences of not adequately applying liquor license requirements.
  • Maintain a knowledge of legislative changes effecting the industry and share updated knowledge with customers and colleagues.

Element 2: Implement the requirements of the liquor license and regulatory bodies

  • Establish workplace policies and procedures that support the implementation of the liquor license and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement policies and procedures in accordance with enterprise and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of workplace policies and procedures and make adjustments as required.

Element 3: Evaluate and apply information on best practice relating to liquor license implementation

  • Identify and monitor industry best practice.
  • Integrate identified industry best practice into existing workplace policies and procedures.
  • Ensure revised policies and procedures are implemented in the workplace
